The
Biavati Family, originally from Bologna, settled down in Umbria
in 1840 with the grandfather Filippo, doctor and musician.
From
1800, this has been, by tradition, a family of notaries
practising in the notary district of Perugia.
The
first notary, Dr. Domenico Gregori, took office as the Pope Pio
V granted the papal dignity to the Meniconi family in Perugia,
on November 30th, 1802.
Dr.
Gregori was followed by his son Gordiano, notary in Piegaro,
whose daughter married Dr. Filippo Biavati, a doctor, musician
and carbonaro (member of a secret political association
of the early XIX century). They had a son, Antonio
Biavati, who was first a notary in Panicale and then in
Perugia, from 1890 to 1934.
The
tradition has been carried out by:
Dr.
Filippo Biavati, notary in Perugia from 1926 to 1971;
Dr.
Paolo Biavati, notary in Perugia from December 19, 1964;
Dr.
Mario Biavati, notary in Bastia Umbria from October 13, 1999.
From
the period of the Risorgimento and the unity of
Italy, to the two World Wars and throughout the last
century, the Biavati Family has had a leading role in the most
important events which have taken place in Umbria and the city
of Perugia.
The
Biavati Family is particularly bound to the territory of the
Trasimeno Lake, since Antonio and Filippo Biavati began their
carriers as notaries in Panicale, where a huge agricultural land
was acquired in 1917 and since then it has been available for
the descendants of the family.
The
notary Paolo Biavati was one of the promoters of the new Italian
Association of Notaries after its privatization in 1995, and he
has recently been chosen as its counsellor.
